Resumo

The accuracy, reliability, and ultimate success of any data-driven precision agriculture project hinge fundamentally on the physical sensor installation phase; high-tech devices become ineffective if they are poorly positioned, insecurely mounted, or installed without regard for the physical constraints of the field environment. Consequently, this study aimed to evaluate automated soil parameter monitoring equipment (measuring pH, temperature, electrical conductivity, and soil moisture) immediately following field installation. Following the assembly of the soil monitoring equipment, testing began with benchtop analysis of soil samples, enabling parameter readings, data storage, and data transmission. The soil used for the equipment validation test was classified as a dystroferric Red Latosol (LVdf) with medium texture. To establish the equipment's reliability and validate the results, commercial equipment was used to obtain reference data, which served as the fundamental benchmark for the validation process. To ensure a valid analysis of the parameters measured by the sensors (pH, temperature, conductivity, and soil moisture), calibration was performed using standard solutions to improve measurement accuracy. An Installation Qualification test was also conducted to verify electrical connections and the suitability of the physical environment where the equipment was installed. Efficient data collection by automated soil parameter monitoring equipment relies primarily on eliminating human error during installation. Ensuring perfect physical coupling with the soil at planned depths and with on-site calibration is crucial for transforming raw data into sound agronomic decisions. To better understand the complex relationships between soil parameters, proper equipment installation is essential, as is the use of calibrated and validated sensors and devices that provide valuable insights into soil quality.
